How can I add math equations into answer box because there is no picture editor for answer box?

I want to add maths equations created in Mathtype 6.7a or Word 2010 into the question and answer box.
I know we can use the picture editor. Do the question and answer boxes allow the input of text only ? If so, how can I add answers for illustrations of some steps of math equation calculations because there is no picture editor for answer. Some maths answers will better have to show steps of equation calculations. Thanks for your advice.

Some of the questions types allow for pictures as the answer (or in addition to text).
See the attached pictures. Diagram (of course), Matching, Order, and Multiple Choice allow for pictures to be used as answers.
Which other types of question would you use a picture as part of the answer? We can look at these suggestions for a future upgrade.
